A big offensive night for Florida Atlantic University powered the Owls past Bethune-Cookman College 3-0 on Friday night at the FAU DoubleTree Classic. The team recorded a .419 hitting percentage to improve to 4-0 on the year.
Katie Arvidson (Franklin, TN) did not commit an error in 20 attempts and recorded 14 kills to post a career-high .700 hitting percentage. The freshman middle blocker added four blocks as FAU defeated B-CC 30-15, 30-12, 30-15.
FAU collected 11 service aces compared to the Wildcats' one as the Owls never trailed in the match. Jeniqua Moran (Brampton, Ontario) and Makra Condill (Crystal Lake, IL) both tallied three aces, while Arvidson and Casey LaRocca (St. Louis, MO) added two.
"We passed so well and were able to stay in our offensive system almost every play," said head coach Jody Brown. "With our aggressive serving we were able to keep them out of their system and our middle attacking was very solid."
Justine Petry (Trumansberg, NY) recorded eight kills out of the middle, while Kelly Paiva (Minas Gerais, Brazil) knocked down 11 kills from the outside.
Condill led the team defensively with 10 digs.
The Wildcats (0-4) were led by Irie Cormier's nine kills.
In the earlier match of the tournament Fairfield University defeated Furman University 3-0.
The tournament will continue on Saturday at 10 am. FAU will face Fairfield in the first match before returning at 5 pm to take on Furman.
