MACON, GA - Florida Atlantic University's Alena Dvorakova has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player-of-the-Year, announced the conference office Monday afternoon. The honor is Dvorakova's second in the past three years. She was one of four Owls to receive A-Sun postseason honors.
Dvorakova, who has played no. 1 for FAU since she was a freshman, is 22-5 overall this season, including 15-3 at no. 1. She holds an FAU career singles record of 90-17 as well as a doubles record of 67-22. Both win totals are FAU records. Dvorakova has won at least 22 singles matches in each of her four years and has received four First Team All-Conference honors.
Dvorakova was the only Owl represented on the First Team. On the Second Team, Katherine Bartnik and Veronika Koksova. Bartnik, a sophomore, won 11 matches this year and was an All-Freshman selection a year ago. Koksova, a senior, helped anchor FAU's no. 2 singles.
Claudia Kecht was a member of the All-Freshmen team. Kecht posted a 10-8 record, all in dual match play, and won the clinching match in against Stetson April 17 when FAU won the A-Sun Championship.
The Owls (9-10) have won two of the past three A-Sun titles and are awaiting the selection of the 64 teams to this year's NCAA Tournament. The selection show is scheduled for May 4 at 4:30pm on ESPNews.
