BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University has received a no. 4 seed at this weekend's Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament. The Owls will face no. 5 Jacksonville in a Friday quarterfinal match in DeLand, FL. The winner of the tournament receives the A-Sun's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
FAU, 6-10 overall and 2-2 in the A-Sun, defeated Jacksonville, 5-2, on February 17 in Boca Raton. The Dolphins are 10-9 overall and finished 1-4 in the conference. The winner of the match will take on UCF, Mercer, or Gardner-Webb in a semifinal match. UCF is the top seed, followed by Georgia State, Stetson, and FAU.
All 11 A-Sun teams play in the championship. The no. 6 through 11 seeds play on Thursday, with those winners advancing to the quarterfinals.
The Owls are led by senior Alena Dvorakova, who is ranked no. 100 in the nation. She owns a 20-4 overall record this year and has won 40 of her past 44 matches going back to last season.
Florida Atlantic won the A-Sun Tournament in 2003, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time.
