Senior Alena Dvorakova was named the Atlantic Sun Conference women's tennis Player-of-the-Week by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. Dvorakova went 3-1 in both singles and doubles play last week and scored a major victory over reigning A-Sun Player-of-the-Year Emese Sulyos on Thursday, ending the sophomore's 21-game win streak to start her collegiate career. It is the third time that Dvorakova has received the honor, the last time being on March 5, 2003.
In Tuesday's season-opener at Miami, Dvorakova fell to Megan Bradley, currently ranked second in the country, 6-2, 6-1. On Thursday, Dvorakova defeated Sulyos 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 in an 5-2 win over Jacksonville and followed that up with wins over UCF's Kristina Lohmos and Stetson's Jackie Bohannon. Both Lohmos and Bohannon were 2004 A-Sun Second Team All-Conference members.
Dvorakova and the rest of the FAU women's tennis team will head to Texas this weekend to take on Southern Methodist and the University of Texas-Arlington.
