Baseball Signs Four

On the first day of the early signing period, Florida Atlantic University's baseball team signed four players to National Letters of Intent. Ryan Cheatham, Justin Dalles, Matt Greener and Mike Hudzina are all high school seniors that hail from the South Florida area.
Ryan Cheatham is currently an outfielder at Wellington High School and was a teammate of current FAU players Travis Ozga and Kenny Gray. A Second Team All-County selection last season, Cheatham followed in the footsteps of former Wellington standout Tim Mascia.
"Ryan reminds me a lot of Tim Mascia, which is very good because Tim is having a wonderful career at FAU," said recruiting coordinator John McCormack. "He has instincts for the game and is an accomplished offensive player. I look for him to make his mark early in his career."
Also from Palm Beach County, Lake Worth, FL native Justin Dalles will join FAU for the 2006-07 season. The Park Vista High School catcher was part o the 2004 1A Championship team and was named Second Team All-Conference following the run.
"Justin has all of the tools," said McCormack. "He plays with passion and intelligence and will be a force at FAU. He can catch, lead a team, and is a good offensive player."
From Punta Gorda, FL, Mike Hudzina was named to the 2005 Sarasota Herald All-Area Team as an outfielder and was selected to play for the Southwest Team at this years Diamond Club event. McCormack believes he will be important both offensively and defensively to FAU. "Mike is a versatile outfielder that can play all three positions. Offensively, he is a tremendous hitter that will develop power as he matures."
A versatile player that could either play the infield or outfielder for the program, Matt Greener hails from Jupiter Christian School. Greener was named First-Team All-Conference and All-State after breaking the school record for single season hits (44) and home runs (11).
"Matt is a tremendous hitter that will hit both power and average," said McCormack. "I am excited to watch him grow as a player."
The Florida Atlantic baseball team advanced to its sixth NCAA Regional in seven years in 2005 and has six starting position players returning to the 2006 squad.
