Phillabaum Signs NLI with Owls

Justin Phillabaum has signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball at Florida Atlantic University in the fall of 2007. The West Palm Beach, FL native becomes the 11 player to sign during the early signing period.
Currently a right-handed pitcher at Indian River Community College, Phillabaum held a 4-2 record at IRCC last season with a 3.99 ERA and was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 24th round.
Previously he attended Royal Palm Beach High School where he played for Carlos Gonzalez and was named All-Conference. He carried a 1.68 ERA, 5-2 record and struck out 50 before being drafted by the Red Sox in the 27th round.
"Justin is the prototype right-handed pitcher," said recruiting coordinator John McCormack. "He is big, strong and has a great arm. He can dominate opponents. We are excited that he will be with us next year. It has been fun watching him grow the last four years. I know he has worked very hard."
Florida Atlantic University will be playing its final season in the Atlantic Sun Conference in the spring of 2006 and will move to the Sun Belt Conference for the 2006-07 year.
