Atlantic Sun Conference kills leader Kelly Paiva added 19 to her total as Florida Atlantic University defeated Stetson University 3-0 Saturday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.
The Owls (18-2, 2-0 A-Sun) defeated Stetson for the second time this season by scores of 30-20, 30-24, and 30-21. The Hatters (4-13, 0-5 A-Sun) lost their seventh match in a row and remained winless in league play.
Paiva (Minas Gerais, Brazil), who averages over 5.5 kills per game, recorded her 19 kills on 44 attempts with just three errors (.364 attack pct.). She and teammate Makra Condill added 10 digs apiece . Gina Iacona led the Hatters with 11 kills, while Rebecca Orzechowicz added eight kills and eight digs. Susannah Neighbors added four blocks.
Florida Atlantic, ranked 11th in the South Region, remains among the top NCAA leaders in wins with its 18th victory. The Owls hit .308 for the match while Stetson hit .078.
The Owls return home next Friday and Saturday to face A-Sun foes Gardner-Webb and Campbell.
