Athletic Update after Hurricane Wilma

BOCA RATON, FL - Power has been restored to Florida Atlantic University's Boca Raton Campus. The University will remain closed through Monday, Oct. 31. While the athletic department staff will return the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 1, and all residential life students will be welcomed back into the dorms noon, Tuesday. Wednesday, Nov. 2 all FAU classes will resume. For continued updates please visit www.fau.edu.
During closure, several schedules were altered. The FAU women's golf tournament scheduled at Doral for Oct. 22 and 23 has been postponed.
Men's soccer (6-7, 3-1 A-Sun) will play four matches in seven days only one will be at home. The team will then begin Atlantic Sun Conference tournament play, just four days later.
The men's soccer match rescheduled due to Hurricane Ophelia will now take place on Monday, Oct. 31 at the University of North Florida.
The men's soccer match that was supposed to take place on Oct. 23 will now take place at FAU on Wednesday, Nov. 2 vs. Belmont at 2 p.m.
The men's soccer match originally scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29 will now take place on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Campbell.
The men's soccer match originally scheduled for Oct. 27 vs. Gardner Webb will now take place on Sunday, Nov. 6 at Gardner Webb.
The men's soccer A-Sun conference tournament will take place on Nov. 10 at Mercer.
Women's soccer team (14-3-1, 9-0-1 A-Sun) has completed its regular season and is training in Orlando. Their conference tournament will take place at Gardner Webb on Nov. 3.
The football team is scheduled to play on Saturday Nov. 5 vs. Troy in Troy, AL as regularly scheduled. The squad will begin preparation, 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 30 and will keep a normal practice schedule.
Just after Wilma made its way across south Florida, the volleyball team traveled to Jacksonville to snap the JU Dolphins 16-game win streak, capture the Owls second-consecutive A-Sun Regular Season title and improved their record to 24-2, 8-0 in conference play.
Volleyball has three regular-season matches remaining, prior to the A-Sun Tournament, Nov. 18-19. The Owls are scheduled to play FIU, Nov. 2 in Miami, to play host to East Tennessee State University, 2 p.m., Nov. 5 and travel to Orlando where they will face UCF Nov. 13.
While the Nov. 13 match at UCF is not in doubt, both the Nov. 2 and Nov. 5 matches will need confirmation on sites, especially after the FAU Gymnasium suffered roof damage.
Due to the roof damage, the basketball teams will remain at alternate locations until the University reopens. Athletic officials will continue to assess the possibilities for the FAU Gym and will also seek alternate practice sites until the facility is available.
The men's and women's cross country teams participated at the Atlantic Sun Conference championship after a week of interrupted preparation. The women's team finished fifth while the men's finish 10th.
