A match-high 22 kills from Kelly Paiva propelled Florida Atlantic University to a 30-27, 30-23, 30-28 win over the University of North Florida on Saturday evening. FAU's record improves to 23-2, 7-0 A-Sun, while UNF falls to 14-9, 5-2 A-Sun.
The Ospreys kept pace with the Owls in most statistical categories despite the three-game loss. Both teams tallied 46 kills with Paiva contributing 22 for FAU. Jennifer King led UNF with 16 kills followed by Amy Stroder's 10. UNF posted eight additional digs and five blocks more than FAU, currently the 11th ranked team in the AVCA South Region. A .188 hitting percentage hurt UNF in its first season in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Defensively, Makra Condill (Crystal Lake, IL) led the team with 12 digs, while Jenna Thomas finished with a match-high 14 for the Ospreys. Magen Wood shut down the FAU offense five times to contribute to the team's 10 blocks. Justine Petry (Trumansburg, NY) added five blocks of her own for FAU.
FAU will travel to the University of Jacksonville on Saturday at 3 pm in a pivotal Atlantic Sun matchup. Both teams enter the match undefeated with only two A-Sun matches remaining.
