MACON, GA -- Offense was an issue as the Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team took their first conference loss, 1-0 to Mercer Sunday.
The Owls (5-7-0, 2-1-0) are now in a close race for the remaining Atlantic Sun Championship spots. Three schools have already clinched. FAU sits in fourth, tied with UNF.
Florida Atlantic could muster only six shots, four of them on goal. Only one of those shots came after the 63rd minute.
Goalkeeper Anders Granstad made six stops, including a big save on a Mercer free kick following a handball in the box just two minutes into the match.
Next week, the Owls will welcome conference foes Lipscomb and Belmont to FAU Field, as the regular season nears the end. Lipscomb is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start on Thursday, and Belmont Sunday at 2 p.m.
