BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's women's soccer team hits the road for its third consecutive road trip as it heads to North Carolina to take on Atlantic Sun opponents Campbell University and Gardner-Webb University. FAU faces Campbell on Thursday and GWU on Saturday. The Lady Owls enter this weekend's play 2-2-2 overall and 0-1-0 in the A-Sun.
FAU opened its Atlantic Sun schedule with a loss to UCF on Septbember 16 but rebounded for a 1-1 tie with South Florida on Saturday. Danielle DiLeo scored her fourth career goal and Christina Chang recorded her team-leading third assist, while Megan Coyne stopped a career-high nine shots. Chang is tied third in the A-Sun in assists and assists per game (0.50) while Coyne is sixth in goals-against average (1.23). Janine Aylward moved into fourth place for all-time games started and seventh place for all-time games played at FAU.
Campbell (2-1-3) heads into the match unbeaten in its last three matches (1-0-2). The Camels own the all-time series lead 5-4 after winning last year's match, 1-0, in Boca Raton. In that game FAU outshot Campbell 15-5 but gave up the game-winning goal in the 51st minute on a break-away. The winning team has won 1-0 in each of the last four meetings with each team winning twice. Cadian Lawrence leads the team with three goals while Susan Persson leads the team with 22 shots (fourth in the A-Sun). Erin Switalski leads the Camels in net with a 0.88 GAA (fourth in the A-Sun) and 39 saves.
Gardner-Webb (4-3) will be looking to notch its first win against FAU as the Lady Owls hold the all-time series lead 2-0. The Bulldogs head into the match having scored the second-most goals in the conference (21) while having the top two individual leaders in goals and points recorded. Leeanna Woodworth leads the conference with nine goals, seven assists and 25 points while Liz Kier is second in goals (8) and points (18). Last season Denise Brolly scored her first game-winning goal as a Lady Owl while Janine Aylward recorded a goal and assist and Kari Fernandez recorded an assist. FAU has outscored GWU 5-1 in its two matches.
