BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University women's basketball coach, Chancellor Dugan, has announced the team's 2004-05 schedule. The 27-game slate includes seven non-conference contests as well as a 20-game Atlantic Sun Conference schedule. Three of the team's seven non-conference games will be against in-state teams.
The Lady Owls will begin the regular season with a two-game swing through Tennessee. They open November 19 at Middle Tennessee before concluding the trip at Tennessee Tech. MTSU is the defending Sun Belt Conference champion while Tennessee Tech finished second last year in the Ohio Valley Conference.
FAU begins its home schedule with a Thanksgiving tournament November 26-27 featuring James Madison, Morehead State, and Youngstown State. Florida Atlantic faces YSU in the opening round with the consolation and championship games on Nov. 27. FAU continues its homestand with A-Sun games against Lipscomb and Belmont on December 2 and December 4, respectively.
Its final three non-conference games are road contests with Florida International on December 11 and Florida State on December 15. FAU then hosts Bethune-Cookman on December 30. Starting with January, FAU's last 18 games are all against A-Sun teams.
"I think we have a dynamic non-conference schedule," said Dugan. "Right off the bat, we play an NCAA Tournament team in Middle Tennessee along with another solid team in Tennessee Tech. I believe our fans will really enjoy the tournament we are hosting, and playing three straight teams from Florida is always something to look forward to."
The 2005 A-Sun Championship returns to Dothan, AL, for the second straight year. The tournament is scheduled for March 10-12. The top eight teams from the regular season advance to the post-season competition. FAU has qualified for the A-Sun Championship in each of Dugan's five years as head coach.
The team begins practice October 16 and plays an exhibition game November 7 at home against Florida Gulf Coast.
Several of the team's road games and all post-season games will continue to air on WLVJ 1040-AM. For ticket information, call 1-(866) FAU-OWLS.
