BOCA RATON, FL - The Atlantic Sun Conference regular season championship and a top-seed in the A-Sun Tournament are at stake Wednesday night when the top two teams in the A-Sun clash at FAU Field in Boca Raton at 6:00pm. Florida Atlantic University hosts Central Florida in a doubleheader which will conclude the A-Sun regular season. FAU currently holds a 48-15 overall record and a 15-3 mark in the A-Sun. UCF is 39-15 and 16-2 in the conference. FAU needs to sweep to clinch its sixth consecutive regular season title. The Owls have won the past seven A-Sun Tournaments.
FAU is coming off a sweep of Jacksonville Monday night in Jacksonville. The Owls won game one, 4-0, in 10 innings before taking game two, 4-2. Pam Mazzarella continues to lead FAU with .372 batting average. She has a six-game hitting streak and has 10 hits in her last 13 at-bats with two homers and eight RBIs.
In the circle, Candice Freel continues her dominance. The junior is 23-7 with a 0.71 ERA, which ranks among the top-15 in the nation. She leads the A-Sun with 12 shutouts and is 17-1 since the beginning of March.
Prior to the first game, seniors Amy Bellisari, Ginny Matthews, and Callie Piper will be honored as part of Senior Night. All three are finishing their fourth season in an Owls' uniform.
FAU and UCF are two of six teams that have qualified for the A-Sun Championship, May 13-15, at FAU Field. Troy State, Stetson, Mercer, and Gardner-Webb round out the field. For ticket information, please call (866) FAU-OWLS.
