BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's Amanda Morin has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher-of-the-Week, announced the conference office Monday afternoon. It's the first time this season Morin has received the honor and the fifth time in her career. It also marks the third time this season an FAU pitcher has received the award. Candice Freel, who was last week's winner, has been honored twice.
Morin pitched a two-hit shutout in FAU's 1-0 win over Campbell Sunday afternoon at FAU Field. In the game, she tied a season-high with 10 strikeouts while surrendering no walks. The appearance was the sophomore's first in two weeks.
Overall, Morin is 15-6 with a 1.61 ERA. The shutout was her fifth of the year and 12th of her career. The win improved her to 13-1 lifetime against A-Sun teams.
FAU is receiving votes in both the ESPN.com/USA Softball and USA Today/NFCA Top-25 polls. The Owls are 40-13 overall and 7-1 in the A-Sun. The seven-time defending A-Sun champions have won 25 of their last 29 games.
Florida Atlantic continues home action this weekend when it hosts Mercer Friday at 6:00pm in a doubleheader at FAU Field. The Owls take on Georgia State Sunday at 1:00pm.
