BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's Trineca McCleod has been named Second-Team All-Conference, announced the Atlantic Sun Conference Tuesday morning. McCleod leads FAU with 14.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. The senior from Deerfield Beach, FL, also leads FAU with a .528 field goal percentage.
FAU (12-15) is the no. 6 seed at this week's A-Sun Tournament and takes on no. 3 Georgia State Thursday night at 9:15pm EST. The quarterfinal game can be heard on WLVJ 1040-AM and www.fausports.com.
McCleod ranks fifth in the A-Sun in scoring, eighth in rebounding, and third in field goal percentage. She has scored 10 or more points in 21 games this season and has posted seven double-doubles.
The A-Sun Tournament is made up of eight teams and is being hosted by Troy State University at the Dothan Civic Center in Dothan, AL. FAU has qualified for the tournament in all five years under head coach Chancellor Dugan. The Lady Owls head into the tournament as one of the hottest teams in the conference. FAU has won six of its past seven games and has gone 10-4 since opening the year 2-11.
Thursday's game will mark the third time FAU and Georgia State have squared off in the A-Sun Tournament. The Lady Owls lost to the Lady Panthers, 64-63, in the 2002 championship game. GSU pulled off a two-point victory in the 2000 semifinals.
In addition to McCleod, Shontavia Williams also averages in double-figures. The sophomore is second on the team with 12.6 points per game. Junior Jackie Brown is third with 8.1ppg.
FAU leads the A-Sun with 70.1 points per game and has posted 72 or more points 12 times this season. In addition, FAU's defense has played a major role in the team's resurgence, allowing just 64.2 points per game since February 19.
Georgia State is led by A-Sun Player-of-the-Year Patechia Hartman. The junior leads the conference with 19.3ppg. FAU and GSU split the regular season series with the road team winning both times.
With a win, Florida Atlantic would play the winner of the Lipscomb/Troy State game Friday night at 9:15pm EST in the semifinals. The Lady Owls are seeking their first A-Sun championship, which would earn them an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
