BOCA RATON, FL - Eight members of the Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team have received Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic honors, announced the conference office Monday morning. To qualify for the award, recipients must post a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Joeyn Dearsman, Janka Deckerova, Corinth Evans, Julie Goad, DeeAnna Hanscom, Sally N'Diaye, Shontavia Williams, and Sharia Young round make of the list for FAU. Deckerova, Evans, Goad, and Hanscom are all seniors. Dearsman, Williams, and Young are sophomores, while N'Diaye is a freshman.
The honor is the fourth for Deckerova with Hanscom and Goad becoming three-time All-Academic honorees. It's the second for Young while Dearsman, Evans, N'Diaye, and Williams all received the honor for the first time.
Of the 11 teams in the A-Sun, only Belmont and Jacksonville placed more players on the list of 69.
Florida Atlantic (12-15) takes part in the A-Sun Tournament this Thursday through Saturday in Dothan, AL. FAU is the no. 6 seed and takes on three-time defending champion Georgia State in the quarterfinals Thursday night at 9:15pm EST. The game can be heard on WLVJ 1040-AM and www.fausports.com.
