After finishing the 2004 season with a no. 30 national ranking, Florida Atlantic University's baseball team finds itself in the same spot in the Collegiate Baseball Fabulous 40 Preseason Poll. FAU closed out the 2004 season with a 47-17 record and return 14 letterwinners from last season.
FAU advanced to its third consecutive NCAA Regional and fifth in the last six seasons in 2004 as the squad won the Atlantic Sun Tournament Championship to earn an automatic bid for the first time in program history.
FAU will face no. 13 Georgia Tech, no.24 UCF, no.35 Michigan and no. 39 Stetson during the season with five position starters returning from the team that advanced to the finals of the NCAA Coral Gables Regional. Junior Tim Mascia (Wellington, FL) returns after pacing FAU with 60 RBI and a .400 batting average as a sophomore.
The season opens up on February 11 when Cincinnati visits FAU Stadium for a three-game series. The team's first 10 games will be in Boca Raton before the team makes its first road trip to UNLV on March 4.
