BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University will host Gardner-Webb University Saturday night in its home and Atlantic Sun Conference opener. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00pm at FAU Gymnasium. The Owls enter the game 0-3 as they play their first home game of the season. GWU is 2-1 and plays at UCF on Thursday before Saturday's clash with the Owls.
FAU is coming off an 84-68 loss at Miami on Monday night. In that game, Mike Bell scored a season-high 23 points to go along with 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Quinton Young went 6-for-11 from beyond the arc for 18 points. Robert Williams pulled in a career-high 15 rebounds as the Owls hung with the Hurricanes until midway through the second half.
Young leads the Owls with 16.0ppg. Of his 48 points, 42 have come from beyond the arc. He is 14-for-28 from long range. Bell has upped his season average to 11.3ppg while Williams leads the team with 10.3 rebounds per game.
As a team, the Owls are shooting 36 percent from three-point range with an average of 7.3 treys per game. The Runnin' Bulldogs head to Florida with wins over North Greenville and East Carolina. GWU's most impressive outing to date is a 90-60 win at home against ECU. Last Saturday, they suffered their first loss of the season, a 79-63 setback at Arkansas. Brian Bender leads the team with 18.0ppg. Tim Jennings is tossing in 13.3.
FAU leads the all-time series 2-1. The Bulldogs won the last meeting, a 67-65 victory February 28 at FAU Gymnasium. FAU's two wins have both come on the road.
After Saturday's game, Florida Atlantic will not play again until December 14 when it hosts Campbell.
