Baseball Adds Bell and Gray

Florida Atlantic University's baseball team has added another two signees for the 2005-06 class to bring the total number of commitments to 11. Josh Bell and Kenny Gray have signed National Letters of Intent to play at FAU announced recruiting coordinator John McCormack.
Gray, a senior at Atlantic High School earned First-Team All-Conference last season and is making the transition from behind the plate to working on the mound. The right-hander played for Post 164 over the summer and held and ERA under 2.00. As a junior, he earned the team's Offensive Player-of-the-Year honors after he hit .391 with four home runs.
"Kenny is a converted catcher with a tremendous arm," said McCormack. "He can throw around 91-93 mph and has a good feel for what is going on. Kenny is a hard worker that will make the transition from behind the plate to the mound."
A switch-hitting shortstop from Boynton Beach, Bell was named the MVP of the High School World Series. He attended Boynton Beach High School his sophomore and junior seasons and compiled a .405 batting average with four home runs, 22 stolen bases, 22 RBI and 23 runs scored his junior year. He was invited to play in the Palm Beach and Broward All-Star Games after his outstanding season.
Along with earning Second-Team All-State recognition, Bell is an honor roll student.
"Josh is a tremendous baseball player and was rated no. 29 in Baseball America's list of top 100 prep players," said McCormack. "Josh is an accomplished offensive player that has power to all fields. He reminds me of former Marlins third baseman Bobby Bonilla; a switch-hitting power guy."
FAU's baseball team wraps up fall practice on Sunday and opens up the 2005 season on February 11 against Cincinnati.
