A Different Kind of Storm
After returning from Charleston, school is open and things are back to normal, whatever that is. Can't really figure that one out just yet. Brilliant scheduling has us on the road to UCF and USF this weekend. Two in-state games that will always bring out the best in the players.
After dealing with all the distractions and storms, UCF hits us like a tornado. Two early goals put us behind and we just can't get off the floor. We struggle all night and give up a late goal to lose 3-0. It was disappointing for all of us. I told the team after the game that I take full responsibility for this loss. We were not prepared to play such and important game. We were not fit, not tactically prepared and certainly not emotionally engaged in this game. I promised my team that this will not happen again. I then told them that they couldn't eat for 24 hours to make them hungrier to play. Drastic times make for drastic measures.
I am only kidding. Could you imagine if that happened? The way this team eats on the road I fully believe they starve themselves during the week, just waiting for the road trip.
USF is next. It might have been the hottest day I can remember. No shade around the bench area so you hade to sit in the sun as well. Katri hurts her ankle in the warm-up and cannot play. Another blow for an already tired and mentally exhausted team. Danni Dileo replaced Katri in the lineup and scores the first goal of the game. We talk about being prepared for the opportunity and Danni came through for her team. The second half was a struggle. USF came out more aggressive and really forced the issue. A PK allows them to tie the game. We go scoreless the rest of the way and end up with a tie. Not what we had hoped for, but a result deserved because of our performance. We are now 2-2-2 with yet another road trip ahead for us. Great scheduling, coach. Oh, and by the way, another little deal named Jeanne is brewing in the Atlantic. What could possibly be next?
I'll let you know.
