Beam and Fiorentino Earn Preseason All-America Status

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its Preseason All-America Teams this week. Florida Atlantic University received recognition with two players named to the third team. Left-handed pitcher Randy Beam earns honors after he finished the 2003 season sixth in the nation in victories and 33rd in ERA. Junior outfielder, Jeff Fiorentino is recognized after hitting .386 with 15 home runs last year.
Beam, a senior from Sarasota, FL finished the 2003 season with a 13-2 record and a 2.39 ERA. The First Team All-Conference recipient threw five complete games and two one-hitters in A-Sun play while holding opponents to a .173 batting average. He earned A-Sun Player-of-the-Week honors after he threw two one-hit games.
Fiorentino (Hollywood, FL) ranked 42nd in the nation in runs per game, 82nd in batting average and 66th in home runs per game in 2003. The graduate of Nova High School picked up First Team All-Conference and Second Team Atlantic Region awards in his sophomore campaign.
Seven players from Florida schools made the NCBWA teams. FAU topped the list with two along with the University of Miami and Florida. Florida State rounded out the selections with one recipient.
