Macon, GA - Forward Kristoffer Aarskog and goalkeeper Anders Granstad of the Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team were named the Atlantic Sun Players-of-the-Week, announced the league office on Monday afternoon. It marks the second time in program history that the duo has swept the A-Sun awards. Aarskog keyed FAU's offense with a goal and two assists and Granstad led the defense with 11 saves in a pair of A-Sun victories.
Aarskog, a junior from Bergen, Norway, was named the A-Sun Offensive Player-of-the-Week after tallying the game winning goal against Campbell and assisting on the game winning goal in the win over Gardner-Webb. In the 6-0 win over Gardner-Webb, Aarskog notched a pair of assists to help lead the Owls to victory. In FAU's 3-2 win over Campbell, Aarskog scored the game winning goal in the 85th minute to give FAU (7-6-1, 4-1) its fourth win in its last five matches. Aarskog leads the A-Sun with 26 points on 11 goals and four assists in 14 matches. It marks the third time this season and fifth time in his career Aarskog has earned the A-Sun's weekly offensive award. He also becomes the first player in program history to win the award three times in one season.
Granstad, a native of Oslo, Norway, earned A-Sun Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors for the Owls after posting his sixth and seventh wins of the season in goal. Granstad registered 11 saves on the week, including four in the shutout win over Gardner-Webb. Granstad managed seven saves against Campbell to preserve the 3-2 victory. His final save came with 15 seconds remaining to turn back Campbell's final match-tying effort. Granstad, second in the A-Sun in saves, has recorded five or more saves in nine of the team's 14 games. He lowered his goals against average to 1.73 for the season, fifth in the conference. Granstad has earned the A-Sun Defensive Player-of-the-Week award twice in his career.
Florida Atlantic remains one game behind UCF for first place in the conference with four matches remaining. FAU returns to action Thursday, October 23, at home against Lipscomb at 8 pm, in the second game of a double-header with the women's soccer team.
