FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - Willie Hughley returned an interception for a touchdown and Anthony Crissinger-Hill and Roosevelt Bynes caught touchdown passes as Florida Atlantic defeated Northern Colorado 21-19 on Saturday.
Northern Colorado (5-2) narrowed the score to 21-19 at 5:13 of the fourth quarter on a 15-yard touchdown run by Adam Matthews.
Florida Atlantic (6-2) was forced to punt on its ensuing possession but Northern Colorado's Vincent Jackson fumbled on his own 38-yard line and it was recovered by the Owls' Casey McGahee with 1:29 remaining to preserve the victory.
Florida Atlantic quarterback Jared Allen was 11-for-15 for 125 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game in the third quarter with a left knee injury. He was replaced by Danny Embick, who went 8-for-9 for 132 yards and one touchdown.
Northern Colorado quarterback Tony Christensen was 12-for-23 for 254 yards and two touchdowns and three interceptions.
Florida Atlantic took a 14-6 lead in the second quarter when Hughley intercepted a Christensen pass and returned it 63 yards for a score.
The Bears closed to 14-12 in the third quarter when Jackson caught a 52-yard touchdown pass from Christensen. The two-point conversion pass was batted down at the line by the Owls.
The Owls extended their lead to 21-12 lead when Embick threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Bynes in the fourth quarter.
