BOCA RATON, FL - Although Florida Atlantic University's men's soccer team was unable to start off 3-0 in Atlantic Sun play, the Owls can tie a program record for most conference wins (4) with wins against Gardner-Webb and Campbell. FAU travels to Boiling Springs, NC, to take on Gardner-Webb, Thursday, at 4 pm, then travels to Buies Creek, NC, to take on Campbell, Saturday, at 7 pm. FAU has a combined record of 8-1 against the two teams.
FAU's record (5-6-1, 2-1 A-Sun) is identical to its record last year through 12 games, although the Owls started 1-2 in the A-Sun in 2002. Keeper Anders Granstad has been magnificent against A-Sun competition, allowing only three goals in three games and recording 19 saves for a .863 save percentage. The Oslo, Norway native has lowered his goals-against average to 1.84, fifth in the conference. Kristoffer Aarskog leads the conference in goals (10) and points (22) and is tied for seventh in the nation in goals per game and tied for 11th in points per game.
Gardner-Webb (7-4, 2-2 A-Sun) will be looking for its first win against FAU. The Owls have scored 14 goals in two games against the Bulldogs after defeating them 7-2 in their first meeting in 2000 and 7-0 in last season's meeting. Aarskog recorded his second career multi-goal game, Ran Poliker recorded one goal and two assists and Josh Garbee assisted on a goal. The Bulldogs are led by Darnell Carroll, who is tied for third in the conference in points.
FAU owns the all-time series 6-1 against Campbell (2-9-1, 1-3 A-Sun). The Owls have not lost to the Camels since the first round of the A-Sun Tournament on November 11, 1995. Florida Atlantic has outscored Campbell 20-9 in its seven matches. Last season, the Owls easily won 6-1 behind Aarskog's first career multi-goal game. Campbell is led by Brendon Barry, who has scored five goals in his last three games and has six on the year.
FAU returns home Thursday, October 23, to play against Lipscomb at 8 pm, in the second of a double-header with the women's soccer team. Season ticket packages can still be purchased.
