RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) - C.J. Hudson rushed for 154 yards Saturday night to lead Eastern Kentucky past Florida Atlantic 22-6 in Coach Howard Schnellenberger's return to the Bluegrass State.
The Owls (0-4) are in just their second year of existence under Schnellenberger, a Louisville native. The 68-year-old Schnellenberger played tight end at the University of Kentucky in the 1950s and coached Louisville from 1985-94.
Florida Atlantic drove inside Eastern Kentucky's 20-yard line three times in the first half, but managed just two field goals by Mark Myers and held a 6-0 lead early in the second quarter.
Chuck Marks started the Colonels' comeback with a 10-yard touchdown run with 8:16 left in the first half. Adam Smith added a 45-yard field goal in the half's closing seconds to give Eastern Kentucky (2-2) a 10-6 halftime lead.
Pierre Wright blocked a punt for a safety early in the third quarter and Marks had a 3-yard touchdown run to give Eastern Kentucky a 19-6 lead.
Smith extended the lead to 22-6 with a 22-yard field goal with 2:35 left in the third quarter.
Third-string running back Terry Ennis added 120 rushing yards for the Colonels.
Eastern Kentucky held Florida Atlantic to 25 rushing yards.
