Women's Cross-Country Wins First Meet

Florida Atlantic Unversity's women's cross-country team started their season on the right foot Saturday morning as the team placed first in the Palm Beach Atlantic invitational at Okeeheelee Park. Freshmen Raynell Hagberg and Kathyn Murnane finished second and third, respectively, as the Owls had five runners finish in the top-ten to lead the team. The win marked the first time in history that FAU defeated Florida International in a cross-country meet.
Rebecca Rodriguez, who was unattached, won the individual competition with a time of 19:51. Hagberg ran a time of 20:06 and Murnane finished with a time of 20:15 to round out the top three. Team captain Claudia Beitel ran a time of 20:58 to finish fifth while Taylor LaReau, 22:02, and Colleen Newton, 22:29, placed eighth and ninth respectively.
Other Florida Atlantic University times were: Andrea Rassi, 22:52, Erin Mayros, 24:12, Antoinette Foster, 24:15, Helenor Wilson, 25:07 and Renee Bridges at 25:48.
FAU runs its next meet Saturday, September 6th at the UCF Invitational in Orlando, FL.
