George Roig Named Assistant Baseball Coach

George Roig has been named Florida Atlantic University Assistant Baseball Coach, head coach Kevin Cooney announced today. George will concentrate his efforts with the pitchers and will assist in recruiting.
Roig, who first came to the university in 1997, left in the Spring of 2002 when he joined Dartmouth University as an assistant coach. Roig helped guide the Big Green to a 21-20 record, the third straight season the team notched 20 or more wins. The streak was the first in the program's history and maintained their status as one of the best in the Ivy League.
The Boca Raton, FL native attended Spanish River High School and Santa Fe Community College before he played for FAU in 1998-99. He was a high school All-State selection along with team captain and MVP in 1995 for the Sharks. While attending community college, the middle infielder earned All-Conference honors. Roig continued to lead the way acting as team captain at FAU in 1999 as the squad tied a national record of 34-consecutive wins in his final season and made their first trip to the NCAA Regional.
Roig did not stray far from success when he acted as an Administrative Assistant for Florida Atlantic in 2000 as the team made its second trip to post-season.
Other coaching experiences include work with American Legion Post 277 and Bucky Dent's Baseball School.
The pitching staff will return six players; all three starters will step on to the field with an extra year of experience in 2003. The squad compiled a 4.32 ERA and had three pitchers named to the All-Conference Team last season as the team became the first in school and Atlantic Sun Conference history to advance to the NCAA Super Regional.
