Softball Extends Streak to 15

TAMPA, FL - Two more victories extends Florida Atlantic University's softball team's win streak to 15, three shy of the program's longest, and moves FAU closer to it fourth of four in-season tournament championships. FAU defeated Nicholls 7-3 and Temple 6-4.
Candice Freel improved to 11-2 after the Nicholls victory and Nikki Myers earned her third save of the season. Freel was supported offensively by a two-run homer by Ninya Ybarra. Ybarra was 3-for-4 in the game. Myers, who started the game as the team's DH, 2-for-3 with a double and Ginny Mathews continued to be hot at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance.
Myers took the mound for the second game victory and improved her record to 14-2. The senior All-American retired 10 by strikeouts. Offensive support came from Heather Wright, who was 3-for-4, Pam Mazarella who was 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the sixth to secure the game. Matthews was 2-for-3 with one RBI. Callie Piper had a two RBI double in the first.
FAU will next face Central Michigan, a team they defeated in the 1999 Regional Tournament, 10 am Saturday, and will then move into the championship bracket scheduled for Sunday.
