ORLANDO, FL - Florida Atlantic University remained perfect on the year with a pair of victories Sunday in Orlando. The no. 34 Owls defeated New Orleans 4-3 in the morning before disposing of no. 75 Charleston Southern 4-1 in the afternoon. The wins improve FAU to 6-0 on the season.
Against New Orleans, FAU fought back after losing the doubles point. In singles play, Martin Jirak, Doug Devriendt, and F.J. Schofield picked up victories before Cristain Paiz clinched the match for the Owls with a 7-5, 5-7, 10-8 victory at no. 4 over UNO's Abedin Sham.
Later on against CSU, the teams elected to play the singles matches first as FAU won four of the first five matches to clinch the victory. Jirak won again at no. 1 while Devriendt and Schofield also won for the second time of the day. Ernest Diaz also picked up a win at no. 6 over CSU's Ariel Fufuro. FAU and CSU did not play doubles.
Florida Atlantic next takes on Wisconsin, March 2, in Coral Gables.
