After completing the 2002 season ranked no. 15 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Poll, Florida Atlantic University earned a preseason spot at no. 21 in the latest release as predicted by college baseball coaches. FAU headlines the Atlantic Sun Conference as three teams were picked in the top-35.
FAU finished the 2002 season with a 46-21 record and won the university's first NCAA Regional after defeating the no. 3 team in the nation. The squad finished the season with its highest ranking, no. 15, in the final week.
With six Florida teams represented in the top-40, FAU finds itself as the third team in the state behind Florida State and Miami. A-Sun members UCF and Stetson follow Florida Atlantic at no. 26 and no. 32., respectively. Ranked no. 38, Florida International will play FAU four times throughout the 2003 season.
Florida Atlantic opens the season on January 31 at Bethune-Cookman College. The Wildcats will host a three-game series before traveling to Boca Raton for two games.
