Sweeney Signs NLI with Baseball

On the final day of the early signing period, Florida Atlantic University added another signee to the list of 12 already committed to FAU in 2003. Mike Sweeney has agreed to attend FAU as a junior from St. Petersburg Community College.
Sweeney is a 6'1" switch hitting first baseman and left-handed pitcher from Middleburg, FL. As a freshman he hit .320 and posted 5 home runs and 45 RBIs. He did not pitch much as a freshman but is expected to see more time on the mound for St. Petersburg this season. Recruiting coordinator John McCormack believes that his versatility will be a huge advantage for FAU. "He is a clutch player both on the mound and in the field. He will make an immediate impact on our baseball club. We plan to use him in the field and on the mound. I have always been impressed with Mike. He is a leader and the consummate team player."
