CORAL GABLES, FL - Florida Atlantic University was defeated by the University of Miami, 5-2, in its season opener Friday in Coral Gables, FL. Alena Dvorakova and Karolina Roubickova each picked up singles victories in the loss. The Hurricanes entered the match ranked no. 37 nationally.
UM took the first point of the match by winning two of three doubles matches. FAU's lone victory in doubles came from the team of Dvorakova and Roubickova. The duo defeated UM's Abby Smith and Igna DeVillers 9-7 at no. 2. The Lady Owls were unable to come back in singles despite victories by Dvorakova at no. 1 and Roubickova at no. 6.
Florida Atlantic next hosts Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday.
