BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University cruised past visiting Florida Gulf Coast Saturday afternoon, 6-1, in Boca Raton, FL. The win improves FAU to 1-1 on the season. The Lady Owls won all three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 lead before claiming five of six singles victories for the 6-1 win.
In doubles, Alena Dvorakova and Karolina Roubickova teamed at no. 1 to defeat FGCU's Eveline Folkerts and Maria Nieto 8-3. Maria Aguirre Gomez and Jessica Burrow just got by Izabela Ciesinska and Carolina Pongrantz 9-8 while, at no. 3, Stephanie Beaulieu and Tania Rivera also picked up a victory.
All of the singles matches were won in straight sets with Dvorakova easily getting past Nieto 6-2, 6-0 at no. 1. Rivera secured a win at no. 2 while Aguirre-Gomez did the same at no. 3. Burrow and Roubickova also picked up individual wins.
Florida Atlantic next plays at Florida International February 2.
