Softball Captures First Game at TAAC Championship

Florida Atlantic University defeated Troy State University, 3-0, Thursday morning as the Trans America Athletic Conference Championship got underway in Boca Raton, FL. The double-elimination tournament continues through Saturday.
Kristen Stanley provided all of the offense FAU would need with a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the fourth. The Lady Owls would tack on two more runs in the sixth on RBI-singles by Heather Wright and Ninya Ybarra.
Nicole Myers (23-11) picked up the victory allowing just two hits and striking out nine. She took a no-hitter into the seventh before TSU's Erica Cruzat led off with a single.
FAU, which is seeking its fifth straight TAAC title, has now won 17 consecutive TAAC Championship games.
In other championship games, Jacksonville State University, the tournament's number two seed was defeated by Samford 3-0, via a no-hitter, and was later eliminated by Troy State 1-0. Georgia State defeated Stetson, the tournament's number three seed, 5-2. The early evening contest between Georgia State and Samford after 1/2 an inning of play.
The tournament will resume with the GSU vs Samford game, weather permititng, 9:30 am, Friday. A new tournament schedule will apply.
