Florida Atlantic University's Nicole Myers has been named Trans America Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Year for the second straight season as the TAAC handed down 2001 all-conference softball honors. Myers, a junior, becomes the first player in seven years to repeat with the season's top award.
Myers was the only Lady Owl named first-team All-TAAC while three of her teammates received second-team honors. They include Annie Norton, Kristen Gonzalez, and Niny Ybarra. In addition, FAU's Ginny Matthews, Callie Piper along with Norton were named to the All-Freshman team.
Myers leads FAU with a .390 batting average and a 0.60 ERA. She leads the TAAC with 19 homers and is tied for third in the nation in home runs per game. On the mound, she leads the nation with 11.4 strikeouts per seven innings. She is the only player to have played in all 60 of FAU's games.
Ybarra is second on the team with a .324 batting average and 56 hits. Norton finished second on the team with 325 putouts in 44 games while Gonzalez saw 40 games of action.
Florida Atlantic finished the regular season with a 41-19 record and begins play at the TAAC Championship Thursday in Boca Raton.
