In their second game of the day, Florida Atlantic University (36-24) fell to the host team of the TAAC Tournament Jacksonville University (37-22). FAU finishes at the tournament after upsetting the no. 2 seed, Stetson University and defeating JU on Thursday. Florida Atlantic took two losses on Friday after a ten inning game against UCF and then falling to JU, 12-5.
Gabe Somarriba led FAU, going 2-for-4 in the game and 5-for-9 on the day. Somarriba doubled in the first to score Bobby Spano from first. Somarriba then doubled to right center in the second with the bases loaded to score three.
Mike Valdes hit his sixth home run of the season in the fourth inning to give FAU a total of five runs.
The Dolphins scored 12 runs on 12 hits. They were able to score in six innings as they faced three different FAU pitchers. Travis NeSmith started for Florida Atlantic and pitched 1 and 2/3 innings giving up one earned run and striking out one. An error by FAU second baseman, Jason Sullivan, allowed four unearned runs to score in the second.
Greg Eubanks (2-2) and Chris Della Rocco both pitched 2 and 2/3 innings. Eubanks struck out two and gave up two earned runs. Della Rocco struck out three and gave up three runs.
Florida Atlantic will await the baseball selection show on Monday to see if they receive an at-large-bid to the NCAA Tournament.
