Boca Raton, FL - The Lady Owls' softball team gathered for the NCAA Regional site selection and roared when it was announced that Florida Atlantic University will travel to the state's capitol as the no. 3 seed in the program's third-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
FAU, who's record stands at 45-19 after winning a record fifth consecutive Trans America Athletic Conference championship, will face the University of Florida, seeded no. 4 with a record 36-25, 3 pm, Thursday. California (49-14) will play Connecticut 35-21 in the tournament's first game, 12:30, Thursday. Host Florida State University ( 54-10) will play Bethune-Cookman College (45-21) in the 5:30 pm, match-up.
"I'm pleased with a no. 3 seed," said FAU head Coach Joan Joyce. "We have played and beaten all but one team in the region and I believe we can make it out of this region."
Earlier this year, FAU defeated UConn 2-1 (10), Behtune-Cookman 5-3 at FSU, host FSU 2-1 and UF 3-2. Both FSU and UF also took wins from FAU. FAU fell to UF 1-0 and 5-4 to FSU.
All FAU games will be aired via the internet at fausports.com.
