TROY, AL -
Florida Atlantic University swept a doubleheader with Troy State University Saturday in Troy, AL. The Lady Owls defeated the Trojans 7-0 in game one and 3-2 in game two. Nicole Myers hit a home run in each game and drove in five runs on the day. Diane Sanchez, and Kristen Stanley also homered for FAU (40-17, 8-4 Trans America Athletic Conference).
In game one, FAU relied exclusively on the long ball to crush TSU. Diane Sanchez started the scoring with her third home run of the season, a three-run blast in the top of the first. Myers followed in the fifth with her own three-run homer while Stanley capped off the scoring with a solo shot in the sixth, her fourth on the year. Chris Sutcliffe (13-3) pitched a two-hit shutout for the Lady Owls with two strikeouts and no walks.
In game two, FAU had to come from behind to get past TSU. Trailing 2-0 in the sixth, Myers hit a one-out, two-run homer to tie the game. Myers leads the TAAC and is among the nation's top-five with 19 homers. Ginny Matthews provided the heroics in the seventh with a run-scoring single that scored Kristin Gonzalez with what proved to be the winning run. Myers (21-10) went the distance, allowing four hits and striking out 10.
Florida Atlantic next hosts Stetson Tuesday at 6:00pm in their final TAAC play of the regular season.
