FAU "Parents' Weekend" Invitational: Final Results
BOCA RATON, FL -
On the final day of action at the FAU "Parents' Weekend" Invitational, Florida Atlantic University defeated Florida International 6-1 before knocking of Florida 3-2 in nine innings to win the three-day tournament.
Against FIU, Lady Owl second baseman Kristin Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with a double while Callie Piper, Nicole Myers, and Jaime Sawyer each added RBI singles. FAU scored one run in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the seventh. Myers earned the victory on the mound, moving her record to 15-8 on the season. She pitched five innings, giving up only four hits and striking out eight.
Against UF, Myers belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to give FAU a 2-0 lead. The Gators scored once in the fifth and once in the sixth to tie the game. FAU's Michelle Shirah led off the bottom of the ninth with a homer to center field to give FAU the 3-2 victory.
Myers was named the tournament's most valuable pitcher. She worked 19 innings, struck out 36, and had a 0.37 ERA.
