TALLAHASSEE, FL -
Florida Atlantic University, ranked 26th nationally, went 2-0 on the second day of action at the FSU Invitational in Tallahassee. The Lady Owls defeated Iowa State 2-1 and Florida A&M 7-3.
Against Iowa State, FAU took an early 1-0 lead on a first inning lead-off homer by Ninya Ybarra. With the score tied 1-1 in the fifth, FAU's Heather Wright hit what proved to be the game-winning homer when she led off the inning with the blast to give the Lady Owls a 2-1 lead. Chris Sutcliffe went the distance in picking up her eighth win in nine decisions.
FAU wasted little time in flexing its muscle against FAMU. Nicole Myers and Cat Cashion each hit two-run homers in the first inning to stake the Lady Owls to a 4-0 cushion. Myers (13-7) relieved starter Kristie Picon to start the fourth inning and picked up the victory. For the game, Myers went 2-for-4 with two homers and five RBIs.
FAU concludes play at the FSU Invitational on Sunday with a 10:00am match-up with Massachusetts.
