BOCA RATON - Florida Atlantic University's softball team swept a doubleheader over the University at Albany 6-2 and 12-0. The two wins raise the Lady Owls record to 11-5 on the season, while Albany falls to 2-6.
Nicole Myers led FAU, in the first game with a 2-for-2 plate performance including a home run and two RBIs. Michelle Shirah belted two triples and added two RBIs.
On the mound, Chris Sutcliffe improved her record to 3-1 on the season after throwing a complete game three-hitter. Catcher, Diane Sanchez added a two-run double in the third inning rounding out the team's extra base hits.
In the second game, the Lady Owls bats came alive with a vengeance. They pounded out 12 hits, four for extra bases and mercy ruled Albany 12-0. Myers added her second home run of the doubleheader, a three run shot in the first inning. Junior, Lianna Pratt was 3-for-3 with a RBI double, and freshman Amy Bellisari was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Pitcher, Kristie Picon upped her record to 3-0, while throwing a one-hitter and striking out a season-high 11 batters.
The Lady Owls will travel to Miami for the FIU Invitational, Friday March 2, facing UCONN at 10 am, and Wichita State at noon.
