BOCA RATON -
Florida Atlantic University sweep Bethune-Cookman College with a 5-4 victory, Sunday afternoon. Like the previous two games of the Boca Raton series it was in come from behind fashion.
Bethune scored first, in the top of the second, with back-to-back doubles. FAU erased the run in the bottom half of the inning with a long...high LJ Biernbaum homer, his second of the season.
The Wildcats scored two in the top-half of the next inning by capitalizing on three of FAU's four game errors. Bethune added one more in the fifth, before Jim Cooney was brought in from the pen to close the door.
Travis NeSmith started the game for FAU, his first collegiate start. NeSmith pitched four and a third, allowed seven hits, four runs, two of which were earned and retired four on strikeouts. Cooney entered the game with two runners on and pitched the next four and two third innings of no-hit baseball.
FAU scored one in the sixth to even the contest and pushed the go-ahead runs across the plate in the bottom of the seventh.
Offensively, Jason Sullivan was 3-for-5 with a double, Mike Valdes was 2-for-4 and Rob Orton was 2-for-4 with a double.
FAU will next travel to St. Petersburg for a three game tournament where the team will face Notre Dame on Friday, Western Michigan on Saturday and South Florida on Sunday.
