Baseball falls to FIU, 7-2

MIAMI - Experience pitching played a difference in Florida Atlantic University's 7-2 loss to in- state foe Florida International University, Sunday afternoon. FAU fell to 7-5, FIU moved to 8-3.
FAU had 11 hits on Saturday night, but saw the bats remain quiet through six innings before second baseman Jason Sullivan put down the perfect bunt. For the game FAU had just six hits, behind pitching from Jerry Courtney and Michael Baluja, both had pitched in a NCAA Regional.
On the flip side, FAU started freshman Chris Pillsbury who was relieved after three innings, five runs, three earned. Fellow freshman, Travis NeSmith pitched the next three innings, holding the Panthers to three hits, two runs, one earned. The game was finished by Nelson Lopez. Lopez allowed one hit and no runs.
Offensively, Regan Samaniego held on to his hit streak with a late game base hit. Dean Devine had the team's only RBI with a hit to left.
FAU will next play host to Bethune-Cookman for a three-game series beginning Friday.
