Men's Basketball Blitzed By Samford

An early 13-0 run by Samford University helped the host Bulldogs to an 86-53 victory over visiting Florida Atlantic University. FAU's Earnest Crumbley and Samford's Derrick Jones each had a game-high 17 points. The loss extended FAU's losing streak to four as the Owls fell to 6-21 overall and 5-11 in Trans America Athletic Conference play. Samford improved to 14-11 and 11-5, respectively.
FAU jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead in the first three minutes of the contest before the Bulldogs responded with a 13-0 run to take a 15-7 lead with 13:23 left in the half. Samford would go to the locker room with a 36-19 lead. Eight of the Bulldogs' 12 first half field goals were from beyond the arc as Samford hit 15-of-34 threes (44-percent) on the day.
FAU never posed a threat in the second half as Samford opened with a 23-9 run to take a 59-28 lead with 11:13 to play. The Bulldogs' largest margin was the final score of 86-53.
For the game, Samford shot 52-percent against FAU's zone defense. The Owls shot just 37-percent, including 4-of-16 from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs outrebounded the Owls 36-29.
Along with Crumbley, Jeff Cowans and Clay Fuller finished in double figures for the Owls. Cowans had 14 while Fuller had 10.
Samford had four players finish in double figures. Marc Salyers had 15, Chris Weaver 14, and Tyson Dorsey 11.
