The University of Miami (16-7) continued a 10 game winning streak with a four-game victory over Florida Atlantic University (11-14). After winning game one 30-27, the Lady Owls dropped the next three games 18-30, 23-30, 30-32.
FAU came out on top in game one by posting a higher hitting percentage then their in-state opponents. Miami posted more kills but the Lady Owls held a .222 percentage to UM's .197. Game two saw the Hurricanes come alive as they posted a .455 attacking percentage to take game two easily and even the match.
Florida Atlantic fell behind in the next two games but found a way to fight back in the fourth game and tied the score at 28 before Miami called a timeout. Miami was able to take the final match 32-30 when senior Kristi Sprinkel put away one of her six kills to seal the win.
FAU had three players post double-digit kills. Gracie Heim led the pack with 13, followed by Marja Valkeavuori (11) and Ashley Bodily (10). The team also had four players record double-digit digs. Lindsey Bell had a season-high 18 digs on the night.
Miami honored the seniors on Senior Night but it was junior Marcela Gamarra who stole theshow with 28 kills and 12 digs.
Florida Atlantic will honor their seniors as they host Florida International in the final match of the regular season tonight at 7 pm.
