In their 20th straight win over Bethune-Cookman College, Florida Atlantic University (11-13, 7-3 A-Sun) took a three-game victory (30-18, 30-22, 30-24) to complete their first of three matches this week.
The Lady Owls scored the first four points of the match and never trailed in game one as they set the tone for the night. B-CC came out with fire in game two as they took an early 9-6 lead behind the blocking of Sharifa Carr as she recorded both of her blocks in game two. FAU was able to recover as Gracie Heim (Indian Harbour Beach, FL) and Danyielle Smith (Seminole, FL) came alive. Heim recorded a game-high 15 kills on the night.
FAU took and early lead in game three with an 8-1 advantage before Bethune-Cookman tied it at 14 when Jafna Davies recorded one of her two aces in the match. The Lady Owls recovered when they were able to finish three straight plays with blocks to take the 18-14 lead and eventually the game.
Lindsey Bell (Colorado Springs, CO) tallied 11 digs in the match as FAU compiled a team total 44.
B-CC was able to out-block FAU 10-8 behind the efforts of 6-foot-3 Shanna Herron as she recorded six blocks. Herron also held a .450 hitting percentage with 10 kills in 20 attemtps.
FAU travels to the University of Miami tonight as they take on the Hurricanes for the second time this season. Florida Atlantic took the win in the first meeting 3-0.
