BOCA RATON - Lauren Lucena scored two goals in Florida Atlantic University's 4-1 victory over the University of South Florida (3-4-2). The win improves the Lady Owls record to 5-4-1.
Lucena scored the first goal of the match capitalizing on a Kari Kaiser cross from the right side. The goal, within the 18, was scored at 9:03. Autum Baur was the next to score for the Lady Owls after Tamea Wimmer served the ball to Baur on the run at the top of the 18 mark. FAU, showing a balanced scoring attack, added one more goal before the half. The goal, a header by Janine Aylward, was set-up via a free kick by Danielle Castro at 33:30.
With a 3-0 advantage at the half and out shooting the Lady Bulls 9-3 in the first half, FAU returned to the field to score its final goal at 67:26. Lucena received the ball from Jessica Kmiotek at the top of the 18 to finish FAU's scoring.
USF's lone goal came at 71:02. It was scored by Stine Flagh. Amy Wallsmith was credited with the assist.
For the game, FAU out shot USF 17-8. Molly Keating earned two saves for FAU while USF used two keepers. Valerie Wetzel had three saves and allow three goals. Brek Bankcester allowed one goal and earned three saves.
The match was a make-up match, related to the September 11 tragedy. FAU will next travel to Birmingham, AL where they will face conference opponent Samford University, October 11.
