BOCA RATON - A game that had 21 runs, 23 hits and nine errors ended on a squeeze play in the bottom of the ninth to give Florida Atlantic University (1-1) a 11-10 victory over fourth ranked University of Miami (1-1).
Regan Samaniego lead off the bottom of the ninth with a single to left. Dean Devine, who had hit a homer earlier in the game was called upon to bunt Samaniego over. Devine answered which left first open. UM elected to walk L.J. Biernbaum to face freshman Rusty Brown. Brown answered with a single to the right side scoring Samaniego and tying the contest and advancing Biernbaum to third. With one out, FAU head coach Kevin Cooney asked Jason Sullivan to squeeze the game-winning run home. Sullivan answered. Biernbaum had an outstanding slide at home to miss the tag and give FAU the victory.
Tim McNab, FAU's starting right fielder pitched an inning and two-thirds to grab the victory. Benjamin started the game, pitched six and a third, gave up six runs, two earned. Travis NeSmith pitched two-thirds and Chris Wailand a third.
Sullivan and Bobby Spano had extra base hits for the Blue Wave, a double and a triple, respectively. Gabe Somarriba, Dean Devine and Sullivan were 2-for-4 for FAU.
The two teams are scheduled to play 7 pm, Saturday in Coral Gables.
