DeLAND, FL -
Despite leading for nearly three-fourths of the game, Florida Atlantic University was defeated by Stetson University 78-72 Thursday night in DeLand, FL. Two separate 8-0 runs by Stetson late in the game capped off the comeback effort. FAU (4-11, 1-5 Trans America Athletic Conference) was led by Tamala Vaughn who scored a game-high 21 points. Stetson's Cher Dyson tossed in 20. Stetson improved to 13-2 overall and 5-1 in the TAAC.
"I felt like we let this one slip away," said FAU head coach Chancellor Dugan. "It was the kind of game that came down to a couple of possessions, and unfortunately, we couldn't hang on to the ball in those possessions."
While the Lady Owls outshot Stetson 41-percent to 38-percent and outrebounded the Hatters 48-44, they committed 30 turnovers.
In the first half, both teams battled back-and-forth to a 34-34 tie at the intermission. FAU led most of the first half as they held their largest lead of seven points on two separate occasions. A 13-6 run by Stetson to close out the half evened the game.
