The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team lost Wednesday night to the University of Miami 6-2. A record crowd of 720 saw the host Lady Owls battle throughout the game. However, a hat trick by UM's Laura west helped the Hurricanes to victory.
FAU (2-1) took a 1-0 lead when Lisanne Peart scored 8:17 into the first half. However, UM (1-1) tied the score on a goal by Alexis Mackenzie four minutes later.
Caryn Blood gave UM the lead for good with a goal with just under 11 minutes left in the first half. UM would carry that 2-1 edge into the intermission.,
West scored the first of her three goals just over three minutes into the second half to give UM a 3-1 lead. She scored two more goals over the next 14 minutes to give the Hurricanes a commanding 5-1 lead.
FAU's Melissa Bobby scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season at 62:55 to cut the UM lead to 5-2.
UM's Blood finished the scoring with her second goal of the game with just under a minute to play.
"We battled throughout, but just came up short," said FAU head coach Brian Dooley. "We played much better this year (against Miami) than we did last year, and I was impressed with the way the younger kids adjusted to the pressure."
